So what kind of work am I doing. Part 1. Kweyol Pot

So it is about time I sat down and wrote on one of the projects I am working on in the Fishing Village of Canaries.

Here is a flyer for Kweyol Pot

Canaries is village that unfortunately most tourists and Lucians drive past on their way South. The community has organized a street festival. This is perhaps my main passion in Canaries as I see as the primary mechanism to raise Canaries village into the social and economic map of Canaries. With unemployment at 30% any economic activity is a huge step forward. I have been working with the Vendors, the Saint Lucian Distillery and Mrs Edwards the main financial backerto make the event more profitable. Currently after all costs are considered for the live band and hi fi the event is still in the red. Currently were pushing for more sponsorship along with a shuttle service for tourists at some of the local hotels to bring the vendors profits up. Culturally this event has more to offer then the street parties on the island including Jump Up in Gros Islet. It's an opportunity to interact with Saint Lucians in an intimate village setting and we feature live Soka, Creole, and Bob Marley music. Other events simply feature a DJ. Below is one of the draft letters were sending to the hotels so you can get a better idea of the work being done. I am also including pics of some of the brochures I have designing along with a flyer.

Dear Sir or Madam,

The Canaries Kweyol Pot Committee would like to inform you of a new initiative with Canaries Kweyol Pot. The Kweyol Pot Committee is looking to make serious outreach efforts to tourists and Saint LucianÂ’s to attend this biweekly cultural event.

Canaries is developing this important economic and social activity to stimulate the communities economy and use this as leverage to promote Canaries on the mental and social map of Saint Lucia to continue to improve the life of its residents.

Some brief information about Kweyol Pot: The Canaries Kweyol Pot Street Party is the best way to experience Caribbean Kweyol flavor and culture in the intimate small fishing village of Canaries. Experience a street party with “LIVE” Kweyol Music with the West Coast Band. They will be mixing in Soka and traditional Kweyol songs with some classics from Bob Marley starting at 6pm. Taste genuine Kweyol Cuisine from our Food Health Certified Vendors. Have the Rabbit Kweyol Platter, serving our signature dish of stewed rabbit with all the traditional sides like breadfruit and dashin. For the less adventurous we always have plenty of BBQ chicken and fish. We also offer traditional Vegetarian Rasta food that’s always fresh and organic.
We would like your support in letting tourists know about our event. With this letter we have attached brochures and calendarsÂ’ that show our seriousness in making this event successful. Please take a moment to review them. We would like to sit down with you and discuss ways we could work with your successful establishment. One particular service we would like to discuss is Kweyol Pot providing a shuttle service from your hotel starting at 6:00pm bringing tourists to Canaries with a return trip bringing them safely back at 9:30pm. We know we can only provide this service with your permission and help.

In addition we must let you know that Kweyol Pot is very concerned about your guests safety, security and comfort. We have 4 off duty police officers to provide security in easy to see shirts and uniforms. We also have a US Peace Corps volunteer who will be on site to provide escort through the eveningÂ’s activities to ensure your guests comfort and enjoyment.

With your support we will be able to make this Kweyol Pot one of the best activities on the island. So please come, enjoy and experience the quaint and intimate setting that is offered in the friendly village of Canaries.

With sincere thanks and anticipated eagerness to work with you,
